Nothing Really...

Journal Entry: Fri Jul 18, 2008, 5:49 PM
  • Mood: Peaceful
  • Listening to: "In Color" by Jamey Johnson - GREAT SONG
  • Watching: British Open - ALL WEEKEND :D
Okay folks, country music fans and haters alike, you HAVE to listen to this song. It's called "In Color" by Jamey Johnson and here is a verse of the song. Disclaimer: I do not own or claim any rights to the lyrics or music or vocals of this song.

I said, Grandpa what’s this picture here
It’s all black and white and ain’t real clear
Is that you he said, yeah I was eleven
Times were tough back in thirty-five
That’s me and Uncle Joe just tryin’ to survive
A cotton farm in the Great Depression

And if it looks like we were scared to death
Like a couple of kids just trying to save each other
You should have seen it in color

And yesterday, my grandparents showed me their sophmore year of high school yearbook, so that was neat.

So I have posted a bit of fanfiction and it's rather encouraging that it gets upwards of fifteen pageviews in its first two days on the Internet. More to come folks, there's a ton of parts to it. Still need a title though...

Today I painted a room of the house. I think I got more on myself than I got on the wall, because it is all over my legs and feet and clothes. Then I went to play golf. Two birdies and three bogeys, two of which should have been pars: lipped out of the cup. But a 35, that's darn good, my personal best. We went to eat and my grandparents shared more recollections of World War II and their childhood. Very interesting, and I think it would make a tremendous addition to Across the Pond, which is still in the planning stages. Two paragraphs are written though...

K.J. Choi is leading GREG NORMAN, "The Shark" :o, in the British Open. Camilo Villegas is two off the lead, one of my rookie favorites. I would be pleased to see any of the three win, but I'm gunning ole Rocco Mediate. Rocco vs. Tiger in the 2008 U.S. Open: EPIC. It reminds me of when I play with CaptainObvious: he knocks it by me fifty or a hundred yards, but I'm always there in the end :D.

That's about it. It's a long journal this evening, as I seem very loquacious. But I think jackedUPonDRpepper has a permanent disease of wordiness and excessive rambling :D. By the way, I read your profile stuff jackedUPonDRpepper, and I must ask, who is this Hope Loman? You have her as your favorite writer...

CONTEST 2 RESULTS!!!

Journal Entry: Thu Jul 3, 2008, 9:24 PM

Okay, once again this was a very close and a very successful contest. Thanks to all who participated and judged!

In 1st Place: :iconsilverwingeddarkness:
*Applause*

Two of the three judges voted you for first place.
It was a very fascinating piece: a unique monster paired with a very twisted and original story. I personally enjoyed your profile most of all, with the background of the species...Overall, a very well-rounded piece. Congratulations!

In 2nd Place: :icontokyo-angel:
*Applause*

All three judges voted you for second place.
It was a excellent piece. Writing is definately your thing. I believe you have a knack for developing a plot and sticking to it. I personally think that your story was the best, literary-wise, but two of the judges agreed that you did not address the "Profile" aspect of the prompt, even with your explanation in the Author's Comments. One judge felt that you should branch out more with the monster for a non-humanoid species. Nevertheless a great piece. Congratulations!

In 3rd Place: :iconpennywise-gee:
*Applause*

One judge voted you for first place.
Your piece was very original. The monster, with its power of the wind and archenemy, made for a very unique and rather suspensful story. However, two of the judges agreed that the story was choppy in some places and needed more explanation. But yes, a very unique, well-thought out and well-written piece. Congratulations!

In 4th Place: :iconsmelldepitts:

The judges felt that you could have used more originality with the monster, possibly a less-human species or a description of its other forms. One judge felt that your plot was not appropriate for this contest, prompt-wise, not content-wise. One judge felt that you excercised orginality in your writing, with the village's relationship to the monster and the plot (the monster's reputations as a "peeping tom," yes that was brilliant), but still did not feel it appropriate for this prompt. But still, a very good piece that should definately be continued, as it is too in depth to be left behind, although not to conform to this contest.

Once again, I could not tell you how close this was. The difference between first and third place was 3 points (I did the results based on a point system: first gets 3 points, second gets 2 and third gets 3). All the entries were very well-written and unique.

I would like to thank all of the participants and judges, myself, :iconcaptainobvious2212:, and :iconlorananirren:. For news on the next contest, check either my journal or :iconjackedupondrpepper:'s. Thanks again for making this summer contest series such a success! :D

CONTEST 2 OVER

Journal Entry: Wed Jul 2, 2008, 9:49 PM

Okay, the deadline for Contest 2 has past. And let me begin by saying that there were four EXCELLENT pieces posted. This contest included much better writing than the previouis so the judges will have a difficult time in selecting the winners.

Results should be up by Friday, July 4th, if not by tomorrow. I know, it's a holiday in the U.S., and I apologize for that, but I wanted to give everyone the most time possible to complete a quality piece, as this contest was shorter than the last.

So, I've been waiting to update my journal forever, but I knew that I couldn't for the contest, so I'm going to do a sub-journal entry update here. "Across the Pond" is my next undertaking, about a WWII soldier stationed in France. Please read the preview, as this project will likely include several parts, with possible other deviations in between.

Thanks to all who read and continue to read. Especially jackedUPonDRpepper, CaptainObvious2212, and Pennywise-Gee!

Okay folks, Contest 1 was great fun for all who participated. And as jackedUPonDRpepper is taking a vacation, I will be the one you need to contact for all contest concerns.

The prompt (This is not my prompt. It was thought up by :iconlorananirren: ):

1) Create a profile of an original monster. For example and ideas, take a look at this profile developed by this plot-thinker-uper, [link]

2) Write about a time in the monster's life, possibly when it is hunting or courting a mate.

**NOTE: THE PROFILE AND STORY SHOULD BE TOGETHER IN ONE DEVIATION.***

Participants:
-- I AM NOT ASSUMING EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE FIRST CONTEST WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN THIS ONE. TELL ME VIA COMMENT OR NOTE.
-- The contest will officially begin on Monday, June 23. However, be brainstorming and thinking of ideas to help you get started promptly (*cough* CaptainObvious *cough*)
--Entries will need to be turned in no later that July 2. If they are turned in any later they will not be accounted for during the judging and receive and automatic disqualification.
--Entries should be named "Story Title --C2."

Judges:
-- I AM NOT ASSUMING EVERYONE WHO JUDGED IN THE FIRST CONTEST WILL BE JUDGING IN THIS ONE. TELL ME VIA COMMENT OR NOTE.
-- Entries will need to be read by July 3 and your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choices need to be into me via note by July 4. If this is a problem, it being the Fourth of July in the U.S.A. and you will be out of town, please let me know. The results could be moved back or I will fill in as the third judge, depending on the number of judges unavailable at that time.

The contest hosted by jackedUPonDRpepper has gained much publicity, but there is still room for more to join. As for me, I have just begun my contest entry, titled "Love and War." I have put it off long enough and have less that a week now...

Today, I woke before the sunrise to attend driver's education. I was pleased with myself, as the instructor did not have to slam on breaks or jerk the wheel. I was going too fast at one point, and he told me to slow down, but that was it. The girl I was taking it with, however, took one curve DANGEROUSLY TOO FAST. Then she ran off the road, so if I am thankful to be here, alive and writing.

And as for the new deviation, "Hope Goes Golfing"...it was commissioned by jackedUPonDRpepper, although humor is really not my forte. But thanks to all who read...:D
